NaNoWriMo

0 min read
I've decided to do NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) in November. If you don't know what it is, it's basically a month for you to focus on starting your novel and getting to 50,000 words. That's the minimum for a novel, so you either finish it or get 50,000 words out of the way. The idea is to just write (even if it's crap), and then you can go back and edit later. I've been looking at NaNoWriMo preparation vlogs, and they all say to use Scrivener, which is a program for basically all creative writing projects. In terms of novels it allows you to fully outline everything, attaching photos, videos, whatever for you to check while you'r

And I'm All Set

0 min read
My mum asked if I wanted to go shopping with her, to "have a look" at the convection ovens for my polymer clay set up I'm getting for my birthday. Turns out that meant buying an oven, plus absolutely everything I'd need (and some things I'm not sure I do...). I ended up with: An oven10 Fimo claysPacket of oven traysArmature wire2 rolling pinsA tool setBaking paper and cling wrapA box to put it all in My mum wanted me to get everything I could possibly need now, and then all I have to do it replenish my clay as I need to. She doesn't seem overly into working with it herself, but is very keen for me to. And now for the geekery...

At the point I feel like I need another holiday... I was pretty much thrust back into a full on uni schedule from the time I got back. By this point in the course the lecturers don't break you in gently. My clinical placement started last week. One day a week at the clinical school at the local hospital for twelve weeks. I'm working with adults with aphasia (basically word finding difficulties and some comprehension problems). I'm sure eventually I'll look back at this experience as valuable and enjoyable, but at this point (I just finished my 2nd day) I'm just completely brain dead by the end of the day. I'd originally planned to be all st

Headcanon question out of curiosity,

If you were a wandmaker in the HP universe, what would your options be for wand cores and why? :)

I just kind of thought about it and went "Aw, poor dragons."
Hmmm, well I'd hope dragon heart strings would be extracted after the natural death of the dragon, although I doubt it...

All the wand cores come from different magical creatures, although the dragon heart string is the only one that would require the death of the animal. Oddly, Hermiones wand is made from dragon heart string. I wonder if she tried to get another when she got all into elf rights, or whether she didn't even think about it.
I guess I would pick unicorn tail hair, just because they make the most consistent and loyal wands.
Well I mean if you could create your own, as an alternative :). What magical plants, minerals or something do you think a vegan wandmaker would use?

...Also I realise there's the problem of sentient plants.
I'm looking at a list of plants in the wizarding world, and most are either used for wand wood or could be described as sentient. Also, a lot of them are labelled as endangered...I guess wizards are still at that point where they don't think about that stuff.
Looking through them I think what you could do is make a wand that's best suited to different situations or tasks. A wand could have rue or dittany if it was often healing. A werewolf could have a core of wolfsbane.
I guess they wouldn't be as much of the "wand choosing the wizard"

ooo this is exciting... :D
I haven't finished the entire series, but I have read up to Memnoch the Devil, so I'm caught up with where this novel will be in the timeline...
...I was going to dedicate my USA trip to reading A Song of Ice and Fire, but maybe I'll read all the unread Anne Rice books I have on my shelf...
